Classic Lamb Shepherd’s Pie with Buttered Peas

Ingredients

  • 500 g Graze Lamb Mince
  • 1 each onion
  • 1 each carrot
  • 2 sticks celery
  • 800 g potato
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 100 g butter
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 each beef stock cube
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup frozen peas

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. Peel and chop the potatoes into even pieces. Boil in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash with 50g butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. While the potatoes cook, finely dice the onion, carrot, and celery.
  4. Heat a large frying pan over medium heat. Add 25g butter and sauté the onion, carrot, and celery for 5 minutes until soft.
  5. Add the Graze Lamb Mince to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  6. Stir in the plain flour and cook for 1 minute. Add the Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and crumble the beef stock cube into the mixture.
  7. Pour in 1/2 cup hot water, stirring well. Simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  8. Transfer the lamb mixture to a baking dish and spread the mashed potato evenly on top. Drag a fork over the potato to create texture.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes or until the top is golden and crisp.
  10. In a small saucepan, cook the frozen peas with 25g butter for 5 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt.
  11. Serve the Shepherd’s Pie hot, with buttered peas on the side.
